We’re heading into fall color season here in the Baraboo Hills!
Peak color in our area generally arrives sometime between the first and third weeks of October, but it can vary dramatically from year to year depending on weather, rainfall, temperatures and other conditions. Even your location within the Baraboo Hills can make a big difference.
For instance, Devil’s Lake State Park’s north shore entrance road, famous for its fall color, is usually one of the last areas of the park to change. It can be at its photogenic best a week or so after other parts of the area have peaked.
That’s why we don’t put too much faith in a single “peak color” date. Instead, we’ll be reporting on fall color around Devil’s Lake and the Baraboo Hills every Thursday, beginning September 10 and continuing through peak color.

Fall color doesn’t arrive everywhere in the Baraboo Hills at once, so check back each Thursday as we follow the color through Devil’s Lake State Park and the surrounding area.
