If you’re planning to get outside this weekend, be ready for some real cold. Saturday’s…

You may see news articles or posts today (11/28) telling us that the deer gun season has ended in Wisconsin, but don’t put away your bright colors just yet!
While the most popular “deer gun” season ended yesterday, muzzleloader season kicks off today and hunters will still be hunting within Devil’s Lake State Park. When the muzzleloader season ends, the 4-day (gun) antlerless hunt begins, followed by the holiday hunt. This means that some form of gun hunting for deer will continue until the end of the year. Hikers will want to continue to know where hunting is allowed in the park and take precautions including wearing bright colors and keeping their pets on leashes.

For nearly 30 years, the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most out of your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly, to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.
