The summer crowd is still hanging around... Autumn is getting later. It's easy to see…
On July 11th, a fire broke out at the base of the East Bluff in Devil’s Lake State Park, near the railroad tracks. It burned about 3/4 of an acre of forest on the slope before it was contained. A spokesperson with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources confirmed it was fireworks that started the fire. Now, about 3 weeks later, the brown scar is still clearly visible from around the lake where the dead leaves mark the location. The good news is that the grass and other ground cover are coming up again in a rich green hue as the land begins to heal. Here are a few pics from the location of the fire today, August 1, 2023.
For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.
