Current Report: February 16, 2025

Over the last few days, Devil’s Lake State Park went from no snow, to anywhere from 6 to 10 inches of snow depending on the location. This week will be a great time to get out on the trails with your snowshoes. Use caution on the bluff trails (East Bluff, West Bluff) as the stairways are often obscured and slippery. Cliff edges are also dangerous and hard to read. Snow can build up and extend outward, or be sculpted by the wind into false ledges that might collapse beneath your feet. Drifts, camouflaged in white can easily trip an unsuspecting hiker at just the wrong moments. We do not recommend hiking the bluff trails right now unless you know the park well. Crampons/spikes are recommended.

Stay safe!
