Sad news today. Former Devil's Lake State Park Naturalist and author Ken Lange has passed…
Starting Today, December 2, 2024, Wisconsin State Parks, including Devil’s Lake State Park here in Baraboo, are moving to a 12-month admission pass system. Here’s what you need to know about the change.
The New Pass System
Instead of all passes expiring on December 31st, your pass will now be valid for 12 months from the month of purchase. For example, if you buy a pass in March 2025, it’ll be valid through March 2026.
Pass Options and Pricing
For Devil’s Lake State Park:
- Daily admission: $13 for Wisconsin residents, $16 for out-of-state
- 12-Month Vehicle Admission Pass: $28 for Wisconsin residents, $38 for out-of-state plates
- Additional vehicle from the same household: $15.50
The pass is also valid at all other Wisconsin State Parks, though daily admission rates may vary by location.
How to Purchase
You can buy your pass:
- Online through the DNR website (Wisconsin Plates Only)
- At the park entrance
- At DNR service centers
When purchasing online, you’ll receive an email confirmation that works for immediate park entry. Your physical pass will arrive in the mail later, marked with its expiration date.
A Few Important Notes
- Trail passes are different from vehicle admission passes and still operate on a calendar year (January-December)
- If you buy an additional vehicle pass, it will expire the same month as your primary pass
- Conservation patron passes will have a new design starting March 2025, but their validity period isn’t changing

For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.
