There are so many holiday events these days, that it's nearly impossible (and expensive!) to…
The 2024 deer gun season starts this weekend. Here in Sauk County, hunting of one sort or another continues through the end of the year. To many visitors’ surprise, hunting is allowed in Wisconsin State Parks. Much of Devil’s Lake State Park is open to hunters, so it’s important to be aware of the dates and realize that gunfire will be part of your park experience starting this weekend.
Here are the upcoming hunting dates that impact Devil’s Lake State Park and the rest of Sauk County:
Gun Season: November 23-December 1
Muzzleloader Season: December 2-11 4-Day
Antlerless Hunt: December 12-15
Holiday Antlerless Hunt: December 24-January 1, 2025
As we’re located in Zone 2, all hunting periods, including the Holiday Hunt, are open in our area. The park remains open to all visitors during hunting seasons—just remember to wear blaze orange for safety when enjoying the trails and park areas during these dates.
Best Trails To Avoid Hunters?
For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.
