As autumn settles into Devil's Lake State Park and the surrounding Sauk County area, we're…
Last week’s storms caused significant damage to the south shore boardwalk bridge at Devil’s Lake State Park. A large tree fell, crushing the bridge and leading many to speculate about prolonged closure. Contrary to these expectations, repairs have been completed within a week.
We compliment Devil’s Lake State Park’s decision makers and the crew who prioritized and repaired the bridge on the south shore boardwalk with amazing speed. When images of the destroyed bridge and fallen tree were shared on our social media channels, many commenters predicted a lengthy repair process, with some suggesting it would be “gone for the summer.” The rapid restoration has proven otherwise, demonstrating what can done when the spirit is willing.
I bet if we could keep this energy alive, we could easily paint all of the benches in the park, sand and paint the bridge on Steinke Basin, AND repair the crumbling wall on the park’s entrance road and all before the snow flies. (Now the trails on East & West Bluff… They might take a bit longer. )
Again, great work. Looks fantastic! Thank you to everyone who made it happen at blistering speed!
For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.
