The 2024 deer gun season starts this weekend. Here in Sauk County, hunting of one…
Our part of Wisconsin is under a Winter Storm Watch from Friday morning through Saturday morning. This includes Devil’s Lake State Park, Mirror Lake State Park, and most of our area. We’re expecting 6 or more inches of fresh snow with winds possibly gusting up to 45 mph. Click here for the local forecast.
Right now the park’s trails have 7-9 inches of fresh snow from the last storm. The high bluff trails (East & West Bluff), stairway trails (Balanced Rock, Potholes, CCC) & Tumbled Rocks Trail have some seriously icy patches hidden under the deep snow, so traction cleats are recommended if you plan to hike there. It’s also very easy to step into a gap between the rocks or right off the trail in this deep snow. If you’re in a risky area, take a walking stick and be sure of where your feet are about to go.
My last post, “Here Comes The Snow” was filled with tips for visiting the park during and right after a snowstorm, so I’ll just link it here.
As always, stay safe out there.
For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.
