The summer crowd is still hanging around... Autumn is getting later. It's easy to see…
Now and through the weekend it’s all about the weather. While some areas are certainly past their prime, as you will see from the photos I took around the area this week, there is still a lot of beautiful color out there. That said, the recent rain is doing its best to knock all of that color to the ground. Let’s have a look…
Devil’s Lake State Park
As you can see, there is still a lot of color around Devil’s Lake State Park to see between the raindrops. South Shore Road from Hwy 113 to the South Shore beach area is especially beautiful as is the North Shore entrance road. The risk is that future rain and winds could quickly change what we’re seeing today.
Mirror Lake State Park
Meanwhile, at Mirror Lake State Park there are lots of areas where the color has faded and at the same time, you can find the darker late-season fall colors if you hike deeper into the trails or paddle around the lake. Check out the photos below taken on Thursday, Oct 26th.
Around The Area
The story is pretty much the same around the Baraboo Hills right now. There is still a lot of color out there and now the darker oranges and reds are standing out as well as the oak trees begin to peak.
The Bottom Line is that while there is a lot of color out there as I write this, but we are also experiencing rains today with a forecast for more rain and winds scattered over the next few days. It’s a rough call how long these amazing colors will last, or if the weather will give you a nice window to enjoy them. In the end, it’s your call! Enjoy!
For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.
