Wisconsin's fall colors are amazing, and Devil's Lake State Park is one of the best…
It’s time once again to look at fall colors in the Devil’s Lake State Park region for the upcoming weekend and into next week. This week, much like last, you can find beautiful fall colors if you look for them, but the overall shade of the Baraboo Hills is “green fading to yellow”. Let’s have a look…
Devil’s Lake State Park
If you drive into the park through the north shore entrance road this weekend, you’ll be met with a tunnel of green with a few patches of yellow. That is until you get down to the parking lots and day-use areas where the colors are a mix of brilliant to trees already losing their leaves. Overall, right around the parking area though, it’s beautiful!
Many people are looking for the calico mix of color covering the hills surrounding the lake. Here’s where they are at. I think it’s important here to note that there is a lot of brown in the mix as many trees are going brown. That said, you will find a little color here and there on the East & West Bluff Trails, but mostly yellows.
Around The Baraboo Hills
It’s the same story all around the Baraboo Hills. You’ll find small pockets of bright colors and lots of fading green.
The Last Word
Now through Sunday, we’re looking at temps in the mid-50s during the day and lows in the low 40s. We’re also looking at rain now into Saturday. It’s just a weird year and hard to call “peak” color. What we can say is that if you come up this weekend, you can find color. Chances are, the best colors might still be a week or so off.
For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.
