As autumn settles into Devil's Lake State Park and the surrounding Sauk County area, we're…
Congratulations to Jennifer Spahn, the winner of May’s drawing! Throughout the summer we are we’re thrilled to join Kindenshop, featuring artist Kinden Vazquez of Stevens Point, to give away prints of her amazing artwork to our readers.
Her portrayals of local Wisconsin parks, natural areas, and communities were inspired by classic national park posters. Each piece captures the natural beauty of Wisconsin and showcases the artist’s unique perspective and creativity.
This month we are an 11″ x 14″ print featuring Pewit’s Nest State Natural Area in the Autumn. I personally love this print as it nearly matches a photograph that I took at Pewits a few years ago.
This Month’s Contest Question helps address a common fear that park visitors often mention…Rattlesnakes!
What year was the only report of a person being bitten by a rattlesnake at Devil’s Lake State Park?

About The Artist
Hello! My name is Kinden Vazquez, and I’m a resident of Stevens Point, Wisconsin. I live here with my husband Isaac and our two young boys, Bo and Kai. In my free time, I love indulging in my favorite foods like pizza, donuts, and Diet Coke! As a painter by trade, I shifted to digital ‘painting’ after our boys were born, as it made for much easier cleanup. I previously worked as a high school counselor for five years before my husband and I both decided to leave our jobs to focus on building our small businesses together. My art prints, which are inspired by the natural beauty of Wisconsin, can be found in various retail shops across the state, as well as online through my website at kindenshop.com. Thanks for taking the time to get to know me and my work!

For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.
