Sad news today. Former Devil's Lake State Park Naturalist and author Ken Lange has passed…
It’s smokey out there! Visitors To Devil’s Lake State Park will want to take note of the current air quality alert if planning to hike up the bluffs between now and lunchtime Saturday. Note that people with heart or lung disease, older adults, and children should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion until the air quality improves.
To read the current alert here’s a link over to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee. Just click on “Watches, Warnings & Advisories” to see the latest alerts. You can also go to the Wisconsin DNR’s Interactive Air Quality Map to see current conditions around the state.
Also Blue-Green Algae
It’s not a great week at the park. There are also notices of Blue-Green Algae in the lake. Blue-green algae, also known as cyanobacteria, has been reported in Devil’s Lake and can pose risks to people and pets. We have more information about this right here.
Road Construction
South Shore Road at Devil’s Lake State Park will be under construction during 2023 between Cty. Hwy. DL and Ski Hi Road. South Shore Road will be closed during the week but will reopen on weekends. Access to the south shore will remain open, however, there may be delays. Hwy. 113 can be used as an alternative route to access the south shore.
That’s a Wrap!
I think that’s the big stuff this weekend! Have fun, and be safe out there!
For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.
