Tomorrow, Thursday, May 18th, an airplane is scheduled to spray parts of Devil’s Lake State Park with the bacterial insecticide “Foray” to control Spongy Moth caterpillars that threaten to defoliate and kill valuable trees in public use areas such as picnic areas and campgrounds.

The Wisconsin DNR states that Foray contains BTK which is considered safe and not toxic to people, pets, or animals. At the same time, they also note that the residue is “sticky” but can be washed off using soap and water. Spraying is planned for tomorrow morning (Thursday, May 18th) as early as 5 am but could happen any time into the afternoon. Planes fly low above the treetops and are loud. According to the signs located in the park, You can avoid exposure by staying inside a vehicle, tent, or building during the spray and for 15 minutes after.
