Devil's Lake Weekend Update: September 13-15, 2024 Happy Friday, outdoor enthusiasts! Get ready for a…
There are a lot of last-minute notes to make before we head into the weekend. First, visitors will want to know that the Dances Wirth Dirt event runs from 5:30 AM – 6:30 PM at the park. This means that you can expect heavier than normal traffic on the roads AND on the trails around Devil’s Lake State Park.
The Dances With Dirt running event happens at the park each year and attracts a large number of runners and spectators. Because the race starts so early in the day, parking fills much earlier than usual. You can expect various traffic backups around the park as well. This year the race will detour on CTY Road, DL because the Merrimac section is closed. Drivers need to keep an eye open when driving around the park and watch for folks with flags and runners at road crossings.
Great Weather!
We are expecting great weather as well with clear skies, moderate humidity, and high temperatures in the mid-80s. So again, expect crowds and capacity closures. Here’s one forecast.

Bottom Line? Busy Weekend!
Yep, so bring your patience this weekend if you plan on visiting Devil’s Lake State Park. If you are looking for peace and relaxation on Saturday, well this might be a good weekend to check out Mirror Lake State Park, White Mound County Park or even drive over to Wildcat Mountain State Park. Each of these parks has trails that will be quiet even on a busy weekend.
Have fun and stay safe out there!
For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.
