Sad news today. Former Devil's Lake State Park Naturalist and author Ken Lange has passed…
Park visitors might want to keep in mind that Baraboo’s SSM Health has temporarily closed their Urgent Care Center due to “extremely” high patient volumes”. This closure will be re-evaluated at the end of December. Patients with non-urgent medical needs are encouraged to go to the Wisconsin Dells location. Emergency Care in Baraboo remains open.
What is “Urgent Care”?
As it may relate to state park visitors, SSM Health lists such symptoms as “urgent care”.
- Minor to moderate injuries (and illnesses)
- Minor rashes and bumps
- Stings and bites
- Splinting for bone injuiries (strains and sprains)
- Sports physicals
- Sutures for minor lacerations
- X-Ray and imaging services

For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.
