The summer crowd is still hanging around... Autumn is getting later. It's easy to see…
The annual S’Mores and Perseids program is coming up this Thursday, August 12 at Devil’s Lake State Park starting at 8:30 pm. Meet near Behind The Rock Elm Shelter near the north shore boat launch.
The Perseids Meteor Shower is the most highly visible astronomical event of the year! We’ll bring the fire and the s’more fixings while you bring some lawn chairs or a blanket so you’re comfortable while watching the meteor shower.
We’ll have telescopes set up so you can observe other stars and planets in the night sky while waiting for the meteors to fall.
This program is great for all ages.
Please Note: If we have clouds or rain, we’ll need to cancel the program. We’ll also be watching how much the smoke haze affects our ability to see the night sky. We’ll make the call to cancel the program that afternoon, before 5 pm. You can always call the Nature Center (608) 356-8301 Ext. 140 if the weather or sky is looking iffy.

For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.
