Wisconsin's fall colors are amazing, and Devil's Lake State Park is one of the best…
Wheeler’s Campground located just 1 mile from Devil’s Lake State Park’s north entrance, now has new owners and a new name. Well, it’s an old name that’s new again.
The campground is now owned by Chris & Lea Ann Gieck who have been seasonal campers at “Wheelers” for the last 9 years and recently had the opportunity to purchase the property. One of their first goals is to add an additional 30+ electric and seasonal sites.
Why Skillet Creek? Well, before the 70-acre campground was called Wheelers it was the Skillet Creek Camping Resort. This is because Skillet Creek (The actual creek!) runs through the property before heading west to Pewit’s Nest SNA. They wanted to honor that history.

We wish them good luck in their new adventure!
For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.
