Wisconsin's fall colors are amazing, and Devil's Lake State Park is one of the best…
Currently, there is no potable drinking water in most of Devil’s Lake State Park. If you’re going to visit over the next few days, we’d like to encourage you to fill your water bottles and pack in any other water you may need.
After seeing the “Do Not Drink” signs posted on various restrooms, we checked with park staff and learned that there was no drinking water available and they were unsure how long this would remain to be the case. I’m told the water is OK in the South Shore Group Camp area, where rock climbers and hikers will often fill up before heading up CCC & Potholes Trails. Otherwise, we suggest you “pack in, pack out” for the weekend at least.
Have fun. Stay Safe!
For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.

I really wish we would have been notified the campgrounds (Quartzite) did not have water- no showers for the entire duration of the spring break camping trip, no flush toilets, no place to wash hands or get water to clean dishes. Very disappointing especially since the fees were not reduced.
Hi, We’re sorry about that and we totally agree regarding the drinking water! (As you know we’re a private org, not associated with the DNR). I personally found it irresponsible not to post that there was no potable water in the park before a busy weekend. When we found out on Friday morning, we shared that information here and on our social media, but as you said, there was no official notice that we were aware of. I recommend you contact DNR parks at 1-888-936-7463 or [email protected]. Let’s hope they address it for you. – With that said, many campground facilities are closed in the spring.. Showers, flush toilets.. simply because the water is off for winter. That park IS stated on the DNR website.
Is there somewhere I can find any information on construction going on in Quartzite? Looks like pump station upgrades and hydrant lines are/have been put in.
Thanks!
Hi,
The water system on the north side of the park is indeed being upgraded. I believe a new well was put in as well. For any more details, you can call the park at 608-356-8301.
