On Tuesday, March 9th (2021) both the red-winged blackbirds and the turkey vultures returned to Devil’s Lake State Park! While many of the vultures will stay, some will just take a short rest here before heading out to their summer haunts across central Wisconsin.
Sandhill cranes returned to the Baraboo hills this week as well. Now we’re just waiting for the Great Blue Heron who have a rookery at the park. Last year the heron seemed to have abandoned the rookery early without raising young. We’re not sure why this happened. We’re hopeful they will return this year and raise families once again. We’ll see…
