December 20, 2024 Fresh Snow Alert! We received approximately 8 inches of snow yesterday through…
Depending on how you approch Devil’s Lake State Park, you may need to take a detour beginning next Monday, February 15th, 2021 until late May as the Wisconsin DOT works to replace the Skillet Creek Bridge.
Where Is This?
Well, if you approach the park from Highway 12, either coming from the Wisconsin Dells or From Madison, and take Exit 219 to go to the park, this may affect you. Normally you would turn right at the stoplights by Walmart, drive a couple of miles (Past Menards), then turn left, driving past Wheeler’s Campground on your way to the north shore entrance.
(** The construction is on the road formerly known as Hwy 159)
Detours?
If you’re approaching on Highway 12 from Wisconsin Dells or Madison you have two options. The first is to turn on Exit 219 as usual, but at the stoplights by Walmart, go straight onto South BLVD. In a little over a mile, at a roundabout, you go to your right (First Turn) onto South Parkway. This will take you right to the North Shore park entrance.
Your second option would be to turn on Ski-Hi Road which is about 3 miles south of Exit 219 on Hwy 12. Ski-Hi Road will connect you with South Shore Road. At the intersection, go right to go to the park’s south shore, and left to head to South Blvd and the park’s north shore. Again, review the map above. (You may need to zoom out.)
All other approaches to the park including from Hwy 33 and Hwy 113 are open as usual.

For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.
