It’s that time of year again! It’s time for the first Devil’s Lake State Park / Baraboo Hills Fall Color Report. Let’s Jump in!
At A Glance!
It’s pretty green out there right now, but you will find a few bright and colorful trees, especially around roads, parking lots, picnic areas, and campgrounds. More sun equals more color.

So all around the area, there are some amazingly bright and colorful trees, probably due to the drier weather we’ve had this summer. But again, colors are sporadically limited to trees in sunnier locations or stressed areas such as parking lots, picnic areas, and roadways. But we’re certainly early in the season. Below are a few photos taken the last couple of days at Devil’s Lake State Park. We have more information, recommendations, and other resources on our Fall Color Page here.

Wrap
I’ll be back next week with my next report. Next weekend, there will certainly be more color, so we’ll look a bit more at THE locations and trails you’ll want to visit to see the best colors at that time. See you then!
For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.
