Camping at Wisconsin State Parks finally opens Wednesday, June 10th (Tomorrow morning as I write this. ). So, how do we check in tomorrow… Well, I asked the communications folks at the DNR and here’s what you need to know;
Check-in is no longer necessary at the office or visitor station when coming to a property. Campers should proceed straight to their designated site no earlier than 3:00 p.m. Campers will be automatically checked-in to their reserved site. Property staff will visit sites to monitor occupancy.
We ask that campers keep a copy of your reservation on hand or available on a mobile device in case a park host or park staff need to verify the reservation.
An annual park sticker is required and are available for purchase online or with credit card by phone 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. seven days a week by calling toll free: 1-888-305-0398.
Also, any changes to a reservation need to be done through the reservation system and are subject to change fees. No transferring or changing campsites will be allowed at this time.
Advice from Skillet Creek…
- Bring your own soap, towels & sanitizers. (Hand dryers will be turned off)
- Make sure to print out a campground map to help you find your campsite.
- Remember, if you don’t have your physical park sticker, print your receipt put it in your car window.
- You can get firewood from roadside stands on DL outside of the north shore or at one of the gas stations in town. (Wood is not sold in the park)
- Take care of yourself – DO NOT expect other visitors to social distance or wear masks. Some do, most don’t. If you are concerned keep in mind that bathrooms & showers can be bottlenecks. Also, some trails are too narrow to social distance on busy weekends. Click here for a list of the park’s busiest trails.
Well there you have it! For all of your questions regarding firewood, bathrooms and such, check out the previous DNR press release. Click here for that.
Have fun. Be safe!
For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.
