As we start talking about changing leaves, it's good to note that fall colors are…
It’s great to see so many folks getting outside as we navigate this pandemic together! Still, at a busy park like Devil’s Lake State Park here in Baraboo, we need to remember that being “outside” isn’t going to protect the vulnerable from the coronavirus, social distancing is. It’s important to stay aware of where you are in relationship to others around you. Before you know it, you can find yourself suddenly in tight quarters, especially around restrooms, trailheads, self-pay kiosks, narrow trails, and overlooks.
On the trails and sidewalks, you want to maintain a distance of at least 6 feet. This can be hard if not impossible to do on narrow trails such as the Balanced Rock, Potholes and CCC where hikers are passing each other in tight quarters regularly.
Let’s be smart out there.
On A Side Note…
I am seeing people saying Wisconsin State Parks are “FREE” now. Well, in essence, this is true. You can read the press release here. However, the goal is “voluntary compliance”. Remember our state parks are self-funded. If you can, please pay the fees.
For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.

Thanks for the update! Do you know if the restrooms are still open on both the North and south shores during weekdays?
Most restrooms have remained open, although it was my understanding that only select restrooms would stay open.
With the Governor’s new Safer-At-Home order, will the trails and parks/state natural areas still be open?
I’m adding a new post. As of this morning at 8am I have no information to suggest the parks will close.
