As autumn settles into Devil's Lake State Park and the surrounding Sauk County area, we're…
Explore Devil’s Lake with the naturalist and uncover the hidden gems and overlooked forests and fields in the park. These guided hikes will happen each Saturday morning during the month of March. Each walk will last 2 to 2 ½ hours and the terrain will vary each week from easy to difficult.
Steinke Basin Trail – Saturday, March 7
10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Meet at the Steinke Basin Parking Lot
Best for teenagers and adults
This week’s walk will be through Steinke Basin – a relatively flat trail through woods and open fields.
March weather can vary and so can the trail conditions, so be prepared for ice, snow, and mud. This week it looks like the trail will be somewhat icy, so if you have ice cleats, bring them along. We will have some pairs of ice cleats to loan participants.
Can’t make this hike?
Throughout Saturdays in March, we’ll have a Weekend Wild Walk in the mornings. The following dates and locations will be:
- Saturday, March 14 – Steinke Basin up to the East Bluff
- Saturday, March 21 – Johnson Moraine Trail
- Saturday, March 28 – Uplands Trail
For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.
