The 2024 deer gun season starts this weekend. Here in Sauk County, hunting of one…
This Saturday, it’s all about getting outside at Devil’s Lake and Mirror Lake State Park! Meanwhile, the Friends of Wildcat Mountain could use your help!
Morning Hike & Campfire at Devil’s Lake
Join the Naturalist at Devil’s Lake State Park Saturday morning, January 4th from 10 am to noon for a morning hike and campfire! At 10 am just park your car at the North Shore parking lot and meet Sue at the gate to the Northern Lights Campground (Just across the train tracks from the parking area.) Start the new year off right with a short winter hike, followed by a campfire and campfire snacks! You’ll hike up the East Bluff Woods Trail for a little over an hour, then head over to the campfire by the Rock Elm shelter to enjoy some hot chocolate, campfire snacks, and camaraderie.
There’s not much snow out there, so it’s really not a great time to snowshoe.
This hike is best for adults and kids over 10 and older. Families with younger children are welcome to join us around the campfire.

2020 WI State Park Stickers!
Remember, you’ll need a new 2020 Wisconsin State Park sticker to park for these events! If you don’t have yours, leave a bit early to give you time to purchase yours!
Have fun!
For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.
