There are so many holiday events these days, that it's nearly impossible (and expensive!) to…
Join us for the annual Devil’s Lake State Park First Day Hike, Wednesday, January 1st, 2020 from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm on Steinke Basin!
Wisconsin State Parks is once again hosting First Day Hikes on New Year’s Day. These hikes offer you an opportunity to begin the New Year rejuvenated and connected with nature! Dress warm and bring a flashlight and, if we have snow, your snowshoes as well. There will also be snowshoes to borrow for FREE including some kid-sized snowshoes! Everyone is welcome to come and hike with us New Year’s Day!
This year at Devil’s Lake, we are going to take a twilight hike/snowshoe through Steinke Basin. The guided hike will be about 2 miles and the trail is not too hilly. We’ll also have a campfire for you to warm up before and after the hike.
** Remember, you’ll need your new 2020 Wisconsin State Park sticker on your car! They are available at Wisconsin State Parks, service centers and some local businesses now.

For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.
