Devil's Lake Weekend Update: September 13-15, 2024 Happy Friday, outdoor enthusiasts! Get ready for a…
Happy 75th Birthday to Smokey Bear! Did you know, that your kids can take Smokey Bear hiking or camping at Devil’s Lake too? Yup, and it won’t cost you a thing!
Kids can take a cuddly, stuffed Smokey Bear camping for the night when you’re staying at Devil’s Lake State Park! You can check out a backpack with a Smokey Bear Stuffie, “The True Story of Smokey Bear” book and Smokey’s diary where you can write about all of the things Smokey did during his visit with you. All you need to do is stop up at the park’s Nature Center to check out a “Take Smokey Camping” backpack. Cool, huh?
Devil’s Lake’s Nature Center is located on the north shore entrance road just up the hill from the visitor center.
Smokey’s 75 Birthday Party!
Saturday, Aug 10th, head on over to Mirror Lake State Park to celebrate Smokey’s birthday with the Friends of Mirror Lake State Park! They will have birthday cupcakes, sing happy birthday, and of course, Smokey will be there to hand out goodie bags to kids under 14 (limited quantities available). Bring your cameras and get a selfie with Smokey. The Smokey Bear Story will be read at 2:00 pm. – Party starts at 1:00 pm. Meet at the Mirror Lake Amphitheater.
For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.
