There are so many holiday events these days, that it's nearly impossible (and expensive!) to…
Seas of flowers are waving in the breeze on the eastern border of Devil’s Lake State Park. If you love prairie flowers, now’s a great time to get out there. It’s time for 2019’s 3rd “super bloom”!
If you want to get out and see the flower show, you’ll want to head out to Hwy 113 and cruise from Hwy 78 (Near Merrimac) up to County Rd DL at Roznos Meadow. Check out the map at the bottom of the page. Most of these floral prairies are located on the Merrimac Preserve which is open to the public FREE of charge. I’ve highlighted a couple of nice spots, but really you’ll see an ocean of flowers in various prairies along the road.
Notes: These photos were taken on July 29th, so you’ll only have a week or two to check ’em out before they fade. Parking is often not available other than along the road, so be careful out there! There is no charge to visit the Merrimac Preserve
Photo tip: The best time for photos is in the late afternoon.

For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.
