There are so many holiday events these days, that it's nearly impossible (and expensive!) to…
It’s going to be a “Hot Time In The Old Town Tonight!” and all weekend for that matter, so let’s jump right in and see what’s happening in the Devil’s Lake region this weekend…
Before we get started, the closest fireworks display to Devil’s Lake State Park is the “Barabooms” Celebration which will be held at the Sauk County Fairgrounds in Baraboo, on Thursday, July 4th, just a 9-minute drive from the park. Click here for more information and directions including a map from the park.

Weather
The weekend looks pretty sweet! We’re looking at Mid-80s through Friday, with a chance of thunderstorms. Then Saturday & Sunday will be right around 80 with less humid conditions. Remember, it’s always a bit cooler right by the lake as well. Here’s one local forecast.
Trail Conditions
The trails are in good summer condition, but we’ve had storms on and off, so expect to find wet areas. Again, the Steinke Basin trail has dried out a bit, but it’s still muddy and the rain isn’t helping.

Well, I think that’s it for this weekend. The thing you need to know this weekend more than most, is that if the weather is good, it’s going to be beyond busy at Devil’s Lake and in the surrounding area. Bring your patience and good will. There’s certainly no point complaining about the crowds, it’s July 4th weekend after all!! Be safe out there.
Oh, and I just know you were wondering about that “Hot Time in the Old Town” reference beyond quoting Jack Nicholson in Batman… Well, here it is.. and don’t say I didn’t warn you…
For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.
