The summer crowd is still hanging around... Autumn is getting later. It's easy to see…
Here’s a bit of video taken this week with one of our local Bald eagle families who live along the Wisconsin River at the Pine Island Wildlife Area.
Pine Island Wildlife Area is one out of 5 tracts of land that make up the “Leopold-Pine Island Important Bird Area” containing 16,000-acres of marsh, grassland, floodplains, farmlands, and forests. The IBA program tries to identify the most critical habitats for birds in Wisconsin, then work with various partners to restore and maintain them. You can learn more here.
“Pine Island” is one of many great places for birders to explore when visiting Devil’s Lake State Park and Baraboo Hills region. We’ve got more local birding information for here.
Oh, and in case you are wondering, we do have Bald eagles year around at Devil’s Lake State Park as well… So keep your eyes on the sky!
For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.
