As our climate changes and visitor numbers climb, Devil's Lake State Park's bluff trails see…
The Greater Yellow Lady’s-slipper Orchid (Cypripedium parviflorum var. pubescens), This is the most common wild orchid in the U.S. and is found in almost every state, however, it is rare to see them at Devil’s Lake State Park
This little group of Yellow Lady’s-slippers was discovered by one of the park rangers just a few days ago and because of their location, they are at some risk to foot traffic, so we won’t share the exact location. That said if you are out walking the trails, keep your eye out for Lady’s-slippers. They will be blooming now, through the end of the month. If you see any, photograph them and let the park naturalist know about your discovery!

For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.
