There are so many holiday events these days, that it's nearly impossible (and expensive!) to…
You can tell summer is approaching as events begin to move outdoors! This weekend you can join the Madison Astronomy Society for the first “Night Sky” program of the year at Devil’s Lake. It’s also time for the annual Spring Fair on the Square in Downtown Baraboo! Just click on a drop-down for details!
The Weather
We can’t seem to get rid of the rain long enough to dry out! That said, the weekend is looking great with mostly sunny skies with temps in the high 50s to Low 60s. You can get the full forecast here.
The Trails
Hiking trails in the area will be good for the most part. We’re encouraging folks to get over to Mirror Lake State Park this weekend to check out some unique features on the Turtleville Trail. At Devil’s Lake, the popular trails such as the East Bluff Trail, West Bluff Trail, and Tumbled Rocks will be in good shape while Steinke Basin is still a muddy mess. This program is best for kids 7 and older and adults, but open to “kids” of all ages. Meet near the north shore boat launch parking lot, just behind the Rock Elm Shelter.
Campground Notes
The Upper Ice Age Campground opens for the season on Friday, May 10th! That said, reservations are always highly recommended!!
Final Word
The lake flies are almost gone!! (Great timing if you ask me!) This means you can enjoy the beach again as well as a walk around the lake. Oh, and here’s something we get asked all the time, “Can we hike around the lake?” Well, if you mean is there a trail around the lake shore, the answer is no, but Read on!
Have fun, be safe!
For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.
