Beautiful ice formations have returned to Mirror Lake State Park! We expect the ice to…
Wildcat Mountain State Park is about an hour west of Devil’s Lake State Park. It’s a beautiful drive any time of year that takes you out into the famous driftless landscapes of Wisconsin. Wildcat is known for its amazing vistas over the Kickapoo River Valley and its miles of horse trails. People only recently seem to be catching on to its winter beauty. Most famously is the park’s Ice Cave Trail which is an easy walk up to a beautiful ice formation. This is a perfect family excursion. The hike is less than a mile and there is a bathroom right at the trailhead.
I had the opportunity to get out to Wildcat this week ( March 10, 2019) and check it out myself. The ice is in prime condition right now as you can see in the video, but the warmer weather is going to take it out fast. Certainly, if you can find the opportunity you should head to Wildcat ASAP. Oh, and next winter we’re going to have to talk more about the snowshoeing opportunities. They’re just endless!

For nearly 2 decades the Skillet Creek blog has focused on 3 main goals; To inspire you to visit and explore the Devil’s Lake region, to help you get the most your visit by sharing tips, events, and other helpful information. Lastly to advocate for our environment & wildlife and talk about how we can keep our natural areas amazing now and into the future! That last goal can sometimes cause controversy, but it’s the only way we can accomplish the first two. – Derrick Mayoleth, Owner.
